Gaia

I am Gaia
And I cry when the forests fall.

I am Gaia
And I cry because
I hear the people weep
And I can do nothing
I can do nothing at all.

I am Gaia
And I have seen the righteous forsaken
I have seen evil flourish, good punished.

I have seen
The desert swallow the oasis, its windblown sand
Fill the dry skull’s staring eyes,

I am Gaia.
And I have seen the rivers sullied
The air stained with poison,
I have felt the knife
In my heart.

I have heard lies spoken in the name of truth
I have heard prayers for harm to befall
Those who have not done the praying people harm.

I have seen the poor stripped naked
To enrich the rich.
I have seen murder done
In the name of stopping murder
And nobody thought it as ironic
Nobody at all.

I have seen evil done
In the name of God,
I have not seen evil done
In the name of the Devil.

I am Gaia
And I have seen everything
Except one
One thing only –

I am Gaia
And I have not seen
God.

  1. I like what I know about Gaia, which isn't a lot, but what I do know makes a lot of sense

  2. Somehow Gaia, I don't think you are going to see God anytime soon.
