Bungli is sort of like LOL speak. As you point out above, the vowels get stretched some and it is sort of "cute" in its own way.
I enjoyed the story. The ending was a nice twist, until the wife finds her photo turned backwards that is. Poor old Potol Babu. Well, that office is big enough for three ghosts…..LOL. Thanks for giving me a good laugh Bill. I really needed one today. This month has been hell so far and it's only half over.Kronkats Kornerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15356981317059108859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-23299345317757233952017-12-15T21:37:30.909+05:302017-12-15T21:37:30.909+05:30I am very cautious about using accents in writing ...I am very cautious about using accents in writing because I have seen it where it distracts from the story - and I've read more than a couple articles that say it should be used sparingly.

The material here was light enough that it made it funnier and let me "hear" the characters in my head.

Plus there were ghosts.Harry Hamidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13176265571549991218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-56802361693911083522017-12-15T19:23:01.993+05:302017-12-15T19:23:01.993+05:30It was a typo. The vowels go on and on and on and sibilants and labials go all Bunglicised.Bill the Butcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08436195659154078021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-50116820405765831792017-12-15T18:07:12.783+05:302017-12-15T18:07:12.783+05:30This is the first time I've read Indian dialec...This is the first time I've read Indian dialect by an Indian. Most of the narration is in dictionary English, except for the 7th from last paragraph, " After stamping around the house like a rogue elephant, as washer wont, she turned on Potol Babu."

Not clear if that was intentional or a type.

In normal British novels that use dialect, the dialect shows social class, but in this, the upper class business owner speaks just like his employees. Not like Wodehouse. Of course, Jeeves speaks better English than his employer, but most servants speak a different dialect to emphasise their social status.

Anyway, this was a very novel and enjoyable experience for me.

MichaelWmeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
