The reason I say this is because of the way describe the feeling you had before you realized it was a quake. I live New Jersey and we felt the earthquake all the way up here almost 300 miles . It had the same feeling you describe. I was working on the third floor of an apartment building and starting to feel nauseous , once I realized what was going on I ran out of the building and across the street. There was dead silence as I looked back at the brick buildings literally swaying back and fourth . It was like nothing I had ever experienced before and I won't be disappointed if I never do again! Very happy to hear you are OK. Having lived ...Bill,
Very happy to hear you are OK. Having lived in southern California for 40 years I knew about earthquakes. The thing is, don't panic. In nearly every disaster/accident more people are injured/killed from panic than the actual event. OK, maybe not every time, but more often than not. I remember sleeping through the Northridge quake that so devastated parts of SoCal.If we had not turned on the TV to see the noon news, it would have been much later that we knew of it. The last earthquake I remember there was in the late summer/early fall of 1999, the big Landers one, I was just getting to bed and it hit. Shook the house quite well, so, after the cats calmed down, I did my usual check of the place, no harm, but fully awake, got on the computer and hit the net.
Now, living in Louisiana, we get the occasional hurricane, but at least we know that one is headed our way days in advance. How the city of New Orleans failed to evacuate those people who do not own private transport still makes me angry. That failure was criminal. Just my own opinion obviously.charlie ehlenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05584863034307604847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-31734604690823355772015-04-26T19:51:14.119+05:302015-04-26T19:51:14.119+05:30I'm glad to hear you're okay.

We have hurricanes, which generally give 4 days' notice before getting here.

What a weird world...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16323871207793126503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-90087399885370816712015-04-26T10:50:04.581+05:302015-04-26T10:50:04.581+05:30Firstly glad you are fine and that you didn't ...Firstly glad you are fine and that you didn't wind up with 5 storeys of building on top of you. As you know, we in Christchurch and Canterbury, have a pretty good knowledge of earthquakes also. I heard about this just as I was going to bed last night, and I knew just what it would be like. Only worse because your populations are so much bigger over there, and there are going to be so many dead and injured and lost under tons of building material. And everything takes so long and is so difficult. We sit here far away from you all and wish that there was something we could do.

By the way, do you call all your patients specimens?Iri Anihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05201370023463647702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826101215822428783.post-77734667002572840912015-04-26T09:15:29.434+05:302015-04-26T09:15:29.434+05:30Bill, We feel your pain, living in Istanbul and wa...Bill, We feel your pain, living in Istanbul and waiting for the big one to strike. And, as you can imagine, we also have corrupt businessmen and construction moguls working hand-in-hand with friendly politicians who have built buildings with sea sand and smooth rebar.
