He argued that its easy to be against the death penalty if the only cases you look at are of the poor, the mentally ill, the wrongly convicted and those you feel compassionate toward. He argued that the only real reason to be against the death penalty is because its wrong, wrong in all cases and for all people, even those who undoubtedly deserve it. To argue other wise (he said)wasn't actually arguing against the death penalty but arguing about who deserved it and who didn't. I've always thought I was totally against the death penalty, I thought I believed it was wrong for the state to take a life, but I must admit I had to think about it once he described the crimes of that particular death row inmate.
